Laguna Cliffs II

This painting was done in the studio from a plein air study I painted on location. My husband spent eight months in Laguna Beach in 1997 on a consulting project. He rented a tiny old cottage right on Victoria Beach. I visited him there several times over those eight months and, like Abby Williams Hill and so many other artists over the last 130 years or so, fell in love with the area. We purchased timeshare property just north of Laguna Beach in 2005 and have traveled there every year since, giving me the opportunity to explore and paint the area. 

This piece was awarded an Honorable Mention for Artistic Excellence at the prestigious Salon International 2009 Juried Exhibition at Greenhouse Gallery, San Antonio, Texas. It was also accepted into the Oil Painters of America Western Regional Juried Exhibition at Howard Mandville Gallery, Kirkland, Washington in August 2009. This painting was paired with Abby Williams Hill's painting entitled "Cliffs, Emerald Bay, Laguna Beach" (1915, 18.75 x 24.75") at the Vashon-Maury Heritage Museum.
