This piece was the first one I painted at the 2011 Door County Plein Air Festival. I've painted this same scene, on the public beach in Ephraim, Wisconsin, twice before, but this time decided to do a horizontal format. I was really pleased with the composition...I felt it really lent itself to this format. The morning light is so beautiful here. I love the way it catches the church steeples and other buildings in the village as well as the boats in the marina and harbor.
