I took my first trip through Zion National Park in May, 2010 and have returned every year since, sometimes twice in a year, painting and capturing the majesty of this enchanted place. The breathtaking scenery completely changes around every bend in the road. Surreal rock formations swirl and twist and reach for the heavens. We only had two days here during this first trip, so I opted to take lots of reference photos instead of painting "en plein air" there. This painting has won an honorable mention in the Salon International 2011 Juried Exhibition at Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio, Texas, in April 2011.
