Spring Forest Study

This is a quick study I did in my back yard looking into the wooded park behind our home. For two nights in a row, I studied the beautiful late afternoon light streaming through the trees with the whispers of spring greens and pink blossoms peeking through the trees. It's been a scene I've been hesitant to try to capture since the light changes so very quickly at this time of day and it's a pretty complicated scene to try to capture in a short time. On the third evening, I couldn't resist any longer and decided to jump right in and just let the paint flow, without any expectation of a finished painting resulting. I just wanted to try to capture that incredible streaming light and the beautiful colors. I was very pleased with the result and will use this 90 minute color study to create a larger painting in the studio soon!
