Cloud Shadow

This piece was painted at Smith Falls State Park along the Niobrara River east of Valentine, Nebraska. I loved the scene when I first saw it, but as the large clouds formed and drifted across the sky throughout the afternoon, they cast a shadow over the cliff at the bend of the river. I loved the contrast between the shadowed cliff and the brightly sunlit trees and bank on the right side of the scene, so I had to paint it that way! This painting is part of my "Yes This is Nebraska" series. This series was exhibited in the late fall 2021 exhibitions in David City and Omaha, Nebraska.
