Calm Before the Storm

Painted for the "Where in the World Is Plein Air" 2018 event. You can view the progress videos from start to finish at www.whereintheworldispleinair.com/debra-joy-groesser/ This was painted on location in Sarpy County, Nebraska in rural Papillion. A severe thunderstorm blew up as I was getting close to finishing...I had all but the sky done before I had to pack up and run from the storm. I thought it fitting to paint in the sky the dark stormy blue gray it actually was. I loved the contrast of the dark sky against the sunlit barn. This piece was included in the 2019 American Plains Artists Signature Member Show.
